Review -- Coty Air Spun Loose Powder

First off, this powder has been around since 1935 & never changed (except packaging). I've seen numerous articles declaring it a "cult classic" too. This is a product with reviews from older beauties who have been using it for 25, 30+ years. Impressive, very impressive!!

It's available in Original & Fragrance Free. The FF comes in a blue/green container instead of the  orange like mine. I am really not sure how many different shades there are. I definitely counted at least 9 somewhere online.

What I was looking for:  I wanted to buy a face powder mainly to set my makeup & control some of my oiliness. I've heard that the shades run light, if you are interested in it for color.

I got Translucent. Translucent was also available in an extra coverage formula but I went with the regular one. It even comes with a little powder puff, which I threw away right away lol. I've been using an e.l.f. powder brush for applying it. This was also my first loose powder.

One of the first things you notice about this powder is the perfumey smell. I kinda like it, reminds me of my grandma (even though she never wore this). =) So, that wasn't a deal breaker for me. Also, look at how much you get! This cost me around $5 & will last FOREVER.

The only bad thing I can tell you about Coty Air Spun is that the humongous package is not very practical to carry around. Which sucks because I think I could use a touch up after a couple hours. Especially at work!

Overall, this does what I expected it to. I like using beauty products that have been in existence for many years. It takes some of the guess work out of finding HG products. Makeup Alley ratings: 387 reviews, 4.2 stars (lippies) with 81% repurchase.

Have you tried this powder?

NOTW II

Gripping my Revlon No Chip Top Coat =)
Nail of the Week #2. Go me lol. Not a very springy color but it is soft. This polish has no shimmer, sparkle or different shades in it. Totally matte gray. I would say it is on the lighter side (a pastel gray?). At Walmart I had this & L'Oreal's gray color in my hand. The NYC was cheaper & just a better color.  The shade is number 270 Sidewalkers. Recommended!

Any polish you're loving ATM?

Beauty History -- Coty

I was inspired to do this post after reading an article about cult beauty products that have been around seemingly forever. Coty's Air Spun Loose Face powder (review coming soon!) was on the list. I've always remembered seeing the pretty orange & blue packages at CVS & Walmart. Usually on bottom shelves. Never had to urge to buy until that article. Plus it was mentioned in a book I read. A character worked at a Coty department store counter. I'd never heard of the brand so I did some research.
A vintage ad that is cute
Coty was started in 1904 in Paris by Francois Coty. The company's very first product was a perfume called  La Rose Jacqueminot. After 4 years, he had enough success to open a factory & tried something new. 1909 is around the time Coty started making that timeless face powder! The company made sure to place it's products in beautiful boxes & bottles.

Coty made the jump to America after World War 1. Before that, it was sold in Paris, London & Moscow. In 1922 it formally became Coty Inc, which is the name it carries today. It has passed hands a couple times, for awhile it belonged to Pfizer.

These days, Coty is the world's leader in fragrance. Many celeb perfumes fall under the Coty umbrella -- Halle Berry, The Beckhams, J.Lo, Faith Hill & LAMB. Coty owns other brands that are VERY familiar to us beauty bloggers. OPI, Rimmel, NYC, Philosophy & Sally Hansen to name a few. All these amazing brands belong to one company!

On their site it states "Coty has 2 areas of expertise: fragrance & beauty with 1 focus: the future."

There you go cutie pies, a big hunk of beauty history! =) Please let me know if you enjoy this post or just want reviews, information about products etc.

NOTW I

When I paint my nails, it's always on Sunday night or Monday afternoon. Why? My days off are consistently Monday & Tuesday. That way, my nails stay chip free & neat looking my time spent outside of work. Therefore it's much more honest & realistic for me to do NOTW posts. Nail of the Week =) Here is my first:
Trust Fund Baby by Spoiled. So far, I've only seen this brand @ CVS. There's a huge selection of colors plus glittery ones (my faves!). This was my first foray into the Spoiled brand.

First off, this looked like a glittery & black polish. Not so. It is medium sized particles of magenta, neon blue, gold & black. I thought $1.99 was a great price for such a cute polish.

I did 1 base coat of Sally Hansen Hard as Nails in Black Out. Next, 2 coats of Trust Fund Baby. That's it! I really like the outcome & am looking forward to trying it over other colors to show of the black flecks also.

As anyone else tried Spoiled polish? I've been loving L'Oreals polishes lately.

Cute Things from March

I got this amazing pallet from Sephora. 33 shadows, 3 gel liners, 12 glosses, 4 blushes & 2 bronzers! I love that it comes in a Sephora "bag". The eye shadows I owned before this were all browns, champagne colors, basic stuff. Now I can experiment!! The shadows are good quality. Didn't melt off my eyelids even working in the kitchen. Very pleased with this purchase. =)

I finally purchased Bobbi Brown's Makeup Manual. This has been on my wish list for ages. I already have her book about teenage beauty, didn't show techniques or step by step photos as much as Id like. Just skimming through this one, I know it will help me learn alot!
Also in this pic is my  Blemish Control cleanser from Olay's Total Effects line. LOVE it. Olay has yet to let me down.

With my Sephora order, Clarins SPF 30 Wrinkle Control eye creme also made it's way to my house. There is so much hype about this product. I am very concerned with using SPF daily & moisturizer.

I have never owned a girly pink polish. This one by L'Oreal looked perfect. Very pastel, light, feminine.  The shade is Penthouse Pink <3 Another first for me was buying a makeup bag to throw in my purse. The blue is bright & the flowers are gorgeous. The brand is Celebrity.

Pallet - $24 @ Sephora
Book -  $12 @ Amazon
Olay cleanser - $6 @ Walmart
L'Oreal nail polish - $5 @ Walmart
Clarin's - $28 @ Sephora
Makeup Bag - $0.50 @ Goodwill [bargain!]

Thanks for taking a look ladies, if you'd like a more in depth review of any of these products or more pictures leave a comment! And could someone PLEASE tell me how to format posts so there's not acres of empty space between everything. When Im composing it, everything looks grood.

Sally Hansen v Nicole !

Sally Hansen's Gem Crush & Nicole's Kendall on the Katwalk are both beautiful glitter polishes. Each took the usual 2 coats for full coverage. GC has bigger glitter particles in red & silver. KotK contains smaller particles in blue, purple and some green.

GC
+ love the color
+ there's 7 colors available
- HARD to get off
- comes off in sheets
- would never buy again or put on my nails
KotK
+ love the color even more.
+ reminds me of mermaids lol
+ good wear
- I really wish there were more glitters in this collection

My toe. Sorry you had to see that!

Do you have a favorite glitter polish??

Sephora & New Shoes =)

Hello everyone! I'm waiting for my ride to work so this will just be a quick little post. I promise a longer one (with pics) tonight.

2 packages arrived for me today. The first is from Sephora. I ordered Clarins SPF 30 Wrinkle Control Cream & a Sephora shopping bag pallet containing 36 eye shadows, 12 lip glosses, 4 blushes & 2 bronzers. I wanted this because I really need to practice applying eye shadow, I can play around with color, and on the Sephora site reviewers said the eye shadows are good quality. =) I chose Soap & Glory The Righteous Butter, Jose Maran Argan Oil & Jack Black (haha) Industrial Strength Head Healer as my samples. Most excited to try the Soap & Glory, Hand cream is for my bf to try.

The second package was shoes. Not heels or sandals though. Customized chucks! I've owned a pair of chucks since I was in highschool. My last pair got worn to work a couple times...had to trash them. My new pair are low top gray, covered in cupcakes with a green inside. I can't wait til I get a chance to wear them. No way am I wearing this pair to the diner & ruining them.

Now something not related to beauty. I feel like my besties (they're twins) are done being besties with me. We've been BFFs for at least 5 or 6 years, grew up on the same street & even have matching tattoos. It makes me feel angry, hurt, disappointed, sad & confused. I don't have anyone to talk to now, besides my bf. He lets me ramble on about different moisturizers, makeup, whatever I feel like talking about. But sometimes, you just want to talk to another girl. So this situation sucks. I feel a little better now. Thanks to anyone who read that & kinda cares.

My HG Body Wash

BUY THIS
Yes, I'm 22 & this is labeled "Age Defying". Bit paranoid about aging. I figure now is a great time to start the good fight against wrinkles, age spots & allll that fun stuff.

Looks: white, plain, like a lotion

Smells: light pleasant smell. Doesn't last much past the shower (I like that in a body wash)

MakeupAlley rating: 18 reviews. Average rating = 3.9 with 72% buy again

This stuff is incredibly moisturizing! After my shower I use Johnson's baby oil. These two together makes my skin unbelievably soft. Definitely worth the about $5 it costs at Wal-Mart. I've been using it 2 months. When my current bottle is empty, you can be sure I will replace it asap.

Anyone else have a HG body wash?  I love this one but wouldn't be opposed to trying something new if it's highly recommended =)

Cheap Dupe - Facial Brush

I wish I could say I haven't posted in a week because I have been busy...that would be a lie though =P Reading blogs? Habit I have down pat. Posting on a blog? Not so much. Something to work on.

I really want to get a Sonicare Mia. It even comes in green! (Green is a color I'm obsessed with) I had about $100 saved for one a couple months ago. Money ended up being spent on Christmas gifts for my bf's children. Definitely more important than me getting my Mia. I ended up getting a $5 Face Complexion brush off of Sephora.
mine was clear...much cuter

The Grood - looove how soft my face feels afterwards.
The Not Grood - I dont think using a brush has made any other difference. I still want a Mia but that will probably be a birthday (July) treat.
I will get better @ pictures!

On a trip to one of the local Dollar Tree, I spotted face brushes! My Sephora one was a good 3 months old. Splurging at the Dollar Tree is always ok ladies. =) It ended up working just as well as the pricer $5 job. I am NOT complaining about that price. Paying a fifth of it is just common sense. They had blue, pink & purple. I grabbed the purple. Works the same as my old one.

Anyone else use a brush but is dreaming of a Mia??
